The Oregon Board of Medical Examiners requires that all physicians complete a mandatory one hour online CME course and at least 6 hours of pain related CME between January 1, 2001 and the January 2, 2009 deadline. These requirements have been mentioned at OSAonline.org before.
If you have attended the OSA's educational meetings over the past several years, you likely have met the requirement for the 6 hours of CME. This handy PDF outlines our educational offerings, so that you can track your pain-related CME obtained from us.
For those who do not have enough pain-related CME, the Oregon Medical Association is also offering a number of courses around the state to help you meet the mandate. You can find out about these courses at the OMA website. The course brochure can be found here.

As has been described here previously, Oregon has a mandated requirement for continuing medical education in pain management and end of life care. If you are a regular attendee of OSA conferences, you've probably met most of this requirement; however, for those that haven't, the California Society of Anesthesiologists offers 12 hour-long online CME courses in this area, priced at only $25/credit hour. For more information, visit our southern neighbor's website at http://www.csahq.org.

The 2007 Haugen Lecture will be held in Portland, Oregon on September 15. This year, Dr. Randy Steadman, a noted expert in simulation who is on the faculty at UCLA, will present a lecture on the future of simulation in our specialty. Dr. Mike Seropian, OHSU's simulation director, is working with Dr. Chris Swide, OSA's President-elect, to develop an exciting group of activities to complement Dr. Steadman's lecture, including difficult airway simulation and other hand's on uses of simulation to expose the attendees to this modality. More details will follow soon, so please reserve this date on your calendar.

It's time to mark your calendars for the 2007 Salishan Spring OSA meeting, which will be held May 19 and 20. OSA President-elect Chris Swide has put together a terrific faculty for this event, and, as always, we will make sure that there will be some great social activities as well.
